Project Introduction

Mrs Marron called us on 1st April 2011 to set up a meeting to discuss the options available to her for adding a small conservatory to the back of her house. We quickly arranged a visit to the property to assess the site and provide instant recommendations and options, whereupon Mrs Marron decided on a high, lean-to option which incorporated large windows and provided maximum extension of her living area.

Design & Planning

Planning for high lean-to conservatory Due to the projection of the conservatory we went down the route of planning to extend beyond the 3 metres allowed without planning permission, which would give the required additional room on the back of the kitchen. Our architect Phil Brookes was asked to go along to survey the property and submit a planning request for the conservatory, which after a short period of time was approved.

The Build

Existing decking had to be taken up and located to another part of the garden, after which the foundations were dug and concreted ready for the brickwork and frame. We found the exact brick to match the main house, and used a blue engineering brick to give strength for the high wall on one side. Tiles were removed from the rear wall of the house, and we leaded the roof back under the tiles to form a seal for the conservatory to sit on.

High lean-to conservatory build All internal walls were refinished by our expert plasterer, giving the conservatory more of an interior than exterior feel. Clear glass was used throughout, at lengths of up to 3.7 m, which ensured nice clean lines in the roof of the structure.

Completion & Follow-Up

High lean-to conservatory complete build As conservatory builds go, this one was very straightforward and was completed on time and without incident. Mrs Marron was delighted with the outcome, now having a modern extension of living space, and giving the light that she required. There was very little upheaval during the whole process, and we were thrilled to be able to provide another top quality conservatory for a local customer.
